It's been a full week with a visit from Marcy Cook! Marcy came and taught a lesson in 1LJY which involved mental math, working with place value and ordering numbers. The students paid close attention and really enjoyed her visit. We have been focusing on graphing this week and the students have created Single Venn Diagrams, Bar Graphs and Tally Graphs. We will continue with our graphing unit for the next few weeks. The students are really enjoying making the graphs because the information in them is all about them!

This week in G1LJY was as busy as ever. The Math centers this week focused on tallies, forming numbers correctly, solving word problems and the 6 fact family. Mr. Jackson taught the students to play Rock, Paper, Scissors and they recorded the winners with tallies. The game was very loud, and very popular.
In Literacy Centers this week students continued to practice their handwriting. They wrote sticker stories with sports stickers. The worked with the 'at' family in Word Work and also listened to two new books in the listening center.
The secret friend game was played again and this week, no one was able to guess their secret friend! What will happen next week?
The class is currently deciding what to share in their Assembly, September 23. They are finding it difficult to fit it all into 20 minutes!
We are all looking forward to the Mid-Autumn Carnival on Monday. G1LJY will visit from 12-12:45 if you would like to join us!
