The electronic portfolio, which is in addition to the paper portfolio, is entirely student generated and allows students and teachers to share a variety of digital media they have made and collected. The portfolio is created in Keynote, a Mac program, and included on your disk in Keynote and video format. The video can be played on any computer and is best viewed with Quicktime, which is available for both Mac and Windows computers.
During the process of creating the e-portfolio the students have learnt how to manipulate things that they have created on a computer. This can be quite an involved process and might involve exporting from one program and into another. This helps them to understand different formats and how to manipulate digital media. They have also practiced a range of computer skills and considered how they should format each page.
As the students reflected on their work and experiences they were asked to think about what Learner Profile or Attitude they exhibited or improved. Each page should have one of these as a badge and as you discuss the portfolio with your child you may wish to talk about these.
We hope that you enjoy the extra dimension that an electronic portfolio gives you on sharing your child’s learning journey.
