What a treat we had today when we were invited by Grade 5 to participate in their PE Coaching unit. We had not one, but TWO PE lessons today and we spent time with our grade 5 buddies while they taught us some new and fun games. What a day!
A big "Weeeeee!" goes out to Joshua's mom for her enthusiastic Mystery Reader performance. The kids enjoyed hopping, flapping and wiggling their way to the 'cool of the pool' with all the animals. Thank you Mary!
"This isn't a snack, it's LUNCH!" were the words spoken by an excited Lena when she found out the share a snack for the week was sushi! Lucas' mom, Kimiyo came in to help the kids roll their own sushi rolls this week. The students were the most quiet they have ever been while constructing rolls filled with rice, tuna, cucumber, crab and corn and then attempting to eat them in one single bite. Thank you Kimiyo and Lucas!
Mr. Dean came in to teach a lesson on positive and negative behaviors on the playground using visible thinking techniques. Students were asked to brainstorm positive behaviors and reasonable expectations for the use of playground equipment. Then they were asked to discuss and illustrate the consequences of positive behaviors on the playground. Thanks Mr. Dean!
The students have begun selecting books that click to keep in their personal book bins for use during reading times. How do you know if a book clicks? Ask a first grader:
Darcie, Makenna's mom came in to read to the class last week. She brought a book all the way from beautiful Hawaii! The class and the teachers loved it!
Joshua's mom, Mary was a risk-taker and came in for our first share a snack of the year. A veteran 1ài parent, she was up for the challenge and made the day great. Mary and her Mike helped the students to make fruit kebabs with some sweet finishes. The students enjoyed trying all of the fruits and the homemade marshmallows added a certain je ne sai quoi. Thank you, Mary!
The HKA Mid-Autumn Carnival was THE place to be as the students enjoyed playing the games such as Moon Lady, Sun Shooter and the VERY popular, Jade Bunny Balance. Our fifth grade buddies were running the activities and encouraging the students to try all of them. There was also a professional lantern maker demonstrating his craft. A huge thank you to the many, many parents who came with us. It was a great morning.
