Lucy's mom Nicolette was our Mystery Reader today. She read a few amazing books to 1ai. Kids were all ears. Thank you, Nicolette
For the past several weeks 1ai students have been involved into personal inquiries about plants. They have been working in different groups addressing different issues: plants in extreme conditions, plant lifecycle, how plants and people are connected, needs of plants, and what seeds are. And today we had our last session where the groups met, finalized their findings and ideas for sharing following by presentations. Each group decided on their own way of sharing their knowledge: a play, game, posters, song, etc. Here are a few snapshots of the presentations.
The trip to HK Flower Show was a complete success!
There was such a variety of flowers from all over the world, amazing displays, creative ideas, and of course shopping! Here are just a few snapshots from the Show - you might want to visit it again with your family on the weekend.
Today students in Grade 1 went on a field trip to HKFYG Organic Farm as part of experiential learning for their Unit Of Inquiry - Sharing The Planet. The purpose of the trip was to learn first hand about plants and seeds, how farmers work, what they grow and how. The students went around the farm, listened to the guide, planted their own seeds, and had a chance to ask farmers questions. The field trip was very interesting and information rich. There were so much to learn!
HOORAY for Book Character Day!!! It was absolutely fantastic to see so many students come to school wearing their favourite book costumes! There was such a variety of designs and colors! During the assembly in the morning all classes had a chance to go on stage for a character parade and to have a little bit of a show off. Then kids split into multi-age groups and participated in various reading and reflecting activities. Keep on reading! Great job, everyone!
The other day 1ai students looked closely at different types of seeds (beans) and placed a few of them on a wet paper towels and into their mini greenhouses (for their UOI on plants). Today they revisited their seeds and noticed something EXTRAORDINARY - THE ROOTS!!! Some of the beans have sprouted roots! That was definitely a big WOW moment in our class which generated all kinds of related questions about how plants grow. Starting today we also started on our Inquiry Circles to try and attempt to answer them. Great learning, 1ai students!
