'Understanding weather systems helps us make plans and decisions' - this is the central idea of our weather unit. In order to practice making plans and decisions, students in mixed groups with 1ren had a few lessons to plan and prepare for today's fieldtrip. The fieldtrip was supposed to be on the school's rooftop in case of a good and suitable weather. To make these plans, the students had to prepare both for outdoor and indoor play. Today we had to make a decision on where to go for the fieldtrip - even though it was not raining but the rooftop was all wet and slippery, it was considered not safe to go there. In this case we decided to stay indoors. Students rotated through the many games and activities they have prepared. Good thinking, Grade 1s!
You got to watch this - It is AWESOME!!!

THE AWESOMENESS SHOW - what an awesome way to have the school year concluded! Kids did their absolute best performing during the assembly. What a multitude of talents, abilities, and ideas they've got - it's amazing!!! Groups of students from both 1ai and 1ren classes chose their own performances. They did singing, dancing, gymnastics, poem reading, playing musical instruments - just to say a few. And the best part of all was dancing with the teachers and grade 5 buddies! Great job, everyone! You are AWESOME!!!
Today we had a wonderful opportunity to have our weather expert Mr. Mat to teach both 1ai and 1ren an inquiry lesson on wind. The current unit of inquiry is about weather and how to measure it, so the topic of wind, directions, and associated types of weather conditions is a great supplement. Throught this highly interactive and hands-on lesson, the students were learning about the high and low air pressure and how winds form, about the directions of the wind and wet or dry weather conditions including typhoons. Make sure to ask your kids, they will share with you a lot!
Harley's mom Alena brought us a delicious snack today in the morning: three kinds of pasta with homemade pasta sauces, as well as parmesan cheese! Delicious! Harley also had an important job of calling students to the pasta bar three at a time. The kids really enjoyed the snack and were eager to get themselves a second helping. Thank you, Alena
