Our Mystery Reader today was .... Yes! Willa's mom Tessa. She came with a huge bag of books to share with us. The students prepared a special Mystery Path for her to walk on and immediately assembled close around to listen to the stories. One of the favourite books surprisingly turned out to be a book WITHOUT any pictures ... That was something!
Refreshed after a week-long holidays, both teachers and students are eager to come to school again! And it's the perfect timing to start a new Unit of Inquiry. It's all about shelters, homes and houses - how exciting!
Many students have brought or emailed us the pictures of their houses from Hong Kong and around the world. We have placed these pictures on a world map in our classroom to see different types of houses and their locations. We have also introduced students to the central idea of the unit and 'unpacked' its meaning. They were so clever to get it straight away!
1AI Assembly video is now available. The students did a great job performing a story from one of their favourite books called 'The Doorbell Rang' by Pat Hutchins. This book is one of our literacy mentor books which we read to them in class to generate ideas for their own writing. The students did an amazing job performing and remembering their lines. It was not easy for them. We spent considerable time preparing for the assembly and they put lots of effort into it. But the best part of all was surely the song 'Lean On Me' which is all about friendship and Who We Are. Other parts of the Assembly included slide show of 5ai buddies as well as our librarian's initiative 'Global Read Aloud'.
Global Read Aloud has just started. Please refer to the following links for reference.
The Padlets are best viewed directly on the Padlet website but can be seen embedded in the blog too:
This home page links to all the other Padlets too.
Thank you, Tanja
1Ai students were all in anticipation today wondering who will be their next Mystery Reader ... ... ... and it turned out to be Brenton's mom Priscilla!!! Priscilla brought quite a collection of books to read to the students, and one of them 'Big Bear Hug' was Brenton's and everyone's favourite. They were really enjoyable stories. Thank you, Priscilla.
History in the making! 1Ai has started on our AUTHOR'S CHAIR!!! Right from the beginning of the term the students were engaged in writer's workshop, getting ideas and writing their own books. For the book to be complete it has to pass a strict criteria of being about one idea, having both words and pictures on every page, and it has to have its title and end pages. Marcello was the first student to start the presentation and he did an amazing job!
